RB 04D

The missile RB 04 D was a further development of the missile RB 04 C. By the end of 1960s a new powder rocket motor was introduced , which gave the missile an extended range. The new rocket motor was developed by an English company.

The motor was exchanged at CVA at Arboga with the assistance of personnel from England. Following this modification the missile received the designation RB 04 D. At the same time the old type of batteries were replaced with maintenance-free, heat activated batteries. The remaining apparatus remained the same as in missile RB 04 C

Function

After launching at a high altitude the powder rocket ignited. The radar altimeter lowers the missile to about 30 feet (10 meters) above the water level, and subsequently the homing device started up. The homing unit was a single plane, active radar homing, working with a CW-mode. (Continuous Wave-mode). With the assistance of the homing unit the missile was directed to a location above the target and the warhead was initiated by the proximity fuse.
